Problems of Hydraulic Motors in the
Water
Gearbox Re-Installation Procedure
As compared with any thruster in the world, significantly smaller tunnel size for the same
power rating.
2. The Shipwrights gearbox, has a very high power rating for its size, is a
low-profile, flowstream friendly design, and can be powered by a variety of sources. It
allows a hydraulic motor to be fully contained in the hull, guarding against both seawater
contamination of the hydraulic system and oil contamination of seawater. See :
Hydraulic Motors in the Water.
3. All materials in contact with seawater are of 316L, Aquamet 22, 17-4-PH & NIBRAL,
four of the most corrosion resistant materials available.
4. A special tunnel interface allows for simple removal of the thruster while the
boat is in the water greatly reducing the time needed to remove the thruster
from the tunnel and reducing maintenance and hauling costs. This proprietary
tunnel interface also provides an exceptional amount of stiffness and
strength to the tunnel/thruster assembly.
5. Dual NIBRAL propellers are designed to produce equal thrust in both directions. NIBRAL
(Nickel-Aluminum-Bronze) is both strong and very resistant to corrosion.
6. Custom designed Stator Screens enhance flow linearity, swimmer safety, and protection
against gearbox damage from debris. They are designed to increase flow efficiency
(by converting rotational energy into linear thrust).
7. Sacrificial zinc anodes provide protection against electrolytic corrosion.
